How to Make a Good Paragraph

Paragraph as a basic unit of organization in writing is a group of related sentences developing one idea. To make a good paragraph, we must know three major structural parts of paragraph. It includes topic sentence, supporting sentence and concluding sentence.

The first important thing in paragraph is topic sentence. It is the main idea that be explained by the other sentences. It limits the explanation in the paragraph in order the explanation does not become wider. So it must be in the form of complete sentence, not too general and too specific and contains a topic and controlling idea. They are three main points that must be remembered in making topic sentence. Topic sentence can lie in the first paragraph or in the last paragraph. We call deductive paragraph if the topic sentence lies in the first and we call inductive paragraph if it lies in the last paragraph.
The second major structural parts of paragraph is supporting sentence. The function of supporting sentence is developing the topic sentence. It can contain some sentences that must be related one each others and explain topic sentence by giving reasons, examples, facts, statistic and quotations.
The last part of a good paragraph’s elements is concluding sentence. Although it is not absolutely necessary, but it is helpful the reader because it signals the end of paragraph and contains a reminder of the important point in the paragraph. Concluding sentence can be made in the form of summarizes of the main points of paragraph, the review of paragraph’s contents and final comment on the topic or remainders the most important ideas to think about in the paragraph.
Finally, we know that a good paragraph is paragraph concluding topic sentence, supporting sentence and concluding sentence. Topic sentence is the main idea that can lie in the first or in the last paragraph. Supporting sentence involves sentences that explain topic sentence and the concluding sentence contains the reminder of the important point in paragraph. After we know all, it is expected that we can make a good paragraph.
